THE DECADE OF RESILIENCE

THE DECADE OF RESILIENCE

Another decade has come to an end and I’m finding it difficult to comprehend how much time has gone by. If I could only choose one word to sum up this entire decade, I would choose resilience. Why perhaps you may ask? On a larger scale, the power of resilience became the forefront of many social movements that have peaked during these past ten years. The world has witnessed advocates, agents, and champions of change demonstrating courage and building their resilience in the face of adversity. While there is still a great deal of work to be done, the resilience that have sparked from the people of this decade has paved the way for the work that will continue onto the next.  Continue reading “THE DECADE OF RESILIENCE”

CHRISTCHURCH

CHRISTCHURCH

I cannot seem to find the rights words to express the sadness, anger, and frustration following the senseless violence that unravelled in Christchurch, New Zealand. Upon hearing the news, all I could think about were the lives that were lost and the families and friends whose lives have changed from this unprecedented terror attack. As media outlets continue to update the world on new reports, my heart has been overflowing with a heavy feeling inside. While thoughts and prayers are often expected after such tragedy, the world needs to collectively come together now and take action.

INSIDER’S GUIDE TO MONTRÉAL

INSIDER’S GUIDE TO MONTRÉAL

The first time I stepped foot in the City of Montréal, I was in love. With an amalgamation of modernity from North America and Old-World charm from Europe, Montréal is the place to be. Dubbed as Canada’s very own Europe, the cosmopolitan city makes you feel as if you have travelled thousands of miles and landed in Paris. Filled with vibrant colours, rich culture, amazing food, and friendly people, the city provides a great deal of places to eat, drink, and sightsee. On the basis thereof, I have decided to share my Insider’s Guide to Montréal. Continue reading “INSIDER’S GUIDE TO MONTRÉAL”

LIFE WILL BE BEAUTIFUL AGAIN

LIFE WILL BE BEAUTIFUL AGAIN

The last time heard my father’s voice was on the day before he passed away. After months of seeking his doctor’s approval, my father, a heart patient in recovery, was excited to come home to spend time with the family. As I sat at my friend’s house talking to him over the phone, I made sure my father notified his nurses before I picked him up the following morning. Little did I know, this was the very last time I was going to hear his voice.

On January 10, 2015, my sister received an unexpected call from the hospital. Confused, my sister picked up. In the early hours of that chilly Saturday morning, my sister was informed that my father had just been rushed to the hospital after nurses found him Continue reading “LIFE WILL BE BEAUTIFUL AGAIN”

WOMEN, GENDER EQUALITY, AND CLIMATE CHANGE

WOMEN, GENDER EQUALITY, AND CLIMATE CHANGE

Identified by changes in temperature, precipitation, winds, and other indicators, climate change is often referred to as a long-term shift in weather conditions (Government of Canada, 2015). According to the Government of Canada (2015), climate change can involve both changes in average conditions, as well as, changes in variability such as extreme events. While existing literature focuses on the economic consequences of climate change, additional attention is required on the social impacts of this Continue reading “WOMEN, GENDER EQUALITY, AND CLIMATE CHANGE”

QUALITY FRIENDSHIPS

QUALITY FRIENDSHIPS

Growing up, my grandmother and my mother have always instilled the idea that less is more to live a content life. Last week, I was sitting down in a café with a good friend of mine discussing my current life predicament where the conversation of quality over quantity sparked up. Quality over quantity was a simple concept that was taught to me during my formative years and something that is currently pertinent in different aspects of my life. I tend to find it relevant in my relationships, my friendships, my academics, my work life, and even my blog. Continue reading “QUALITY FRIENDSHIPS”
