TAKING THE SCENIC ROUTE THROUGH LIFE

TAKING THE SCENIC ROUTE THROUGH LIFE

Travelling is what I like to call taking the scenic route through life. Filled with pleasant views, nice sceneries, and new experiences, it’s the path many of us should always take. I believe the purpose of life is more than just sitting at our nine to five job. From the rut of our profoundly busy life, travelling fills that empty void. A void that needs a little more than what we do on a daily basis.

Exploring new places, meeting new people, and trying new food is the scenic route through life. If you have ever driven through a scenic highway, you become so drawn to the beautiful scenery that you begin to reflect on how beautiful the world is. Parallel to Continue reading “TAKING THE SCENIC ROUTE THROUGH LIFE”

EMBARKING ON A MISSION TRIP

EMBARKING ON A MISSION TRIP

Come May 2017, I will be embarking on a mission. A mission I’ve been longing to complete since ninth grade. A mission to volunteer my time and help those who need it the most. A mission to empower myself and youth across the globe. A mission to give back to my world and create sustainable change.

Ever since I was a little girl, I always knew I wanted to travel to developing countries and volunteer my time to help those who need it most. It all began when my grandmother showed me something on television around six-years old. On a small television that sat in my living room, I watched as my eyes began to quickly see the truth about the world.

LONDON, ENGLAND

LONDON, ENGLAND

It took us about an hour to an hour and a half to get to East London. Before heading to our hotel in Heathrow, we made our way to Central London for dinner. Mesmerized by the buildings and lights, I was anxiously waiting to get off the bus and explore. London was definitely the most fanciest and cleanest city I’ve ever been too. Aside from my horrendous outfit choices in Grade 12, the luxury of the city made me feel like I wasn’t in place, let alone, afford to be in the city!

On our way to dinner, we came across some very unique and interesting restaurant and store names. My personal favourite was “Good Man Chinese Food to Take Away,” just Continue reading “LONDON, ENGLAND”

CANTERBURY, ENGLAND

CANTERBURY, ENGLAND

The following morning after our adventure at Vimy, Yprés, and Lille, we drove to Calais to board the ferry to Dover. It was a very exciting but busy morning, as we had to pass through customs and unload the bus with all of our luggages. Aside from the excitement of going to England, it was also a sad morning as we had to say goodbye to one of the most talented bus drivers we’ve ever had on the trip.

Customs ran smoothly and every one was ready to board the ferry to Dover. There was a wait but when the time came, the excitement grew. This was my first time on an actual Continue reading “CANTERBURY, ENGLAND”

YPRÉS, BELGIUM

YPRÉS, BELGIUM

Belgium! Belgium was a surprise as it was unexpected during my trip in Europe. After Vimy, we travelled to the little cheery town of Ypres, a once devastated town located in the Flemish Region of West Flanders. As the centre of the battles between Germany and the Allied Forces during World War 1, Ypres, also known as Ieper, has blossomed into the most beautiful town I’ve ever seen. Upon arriving, I was fascinated with how huge the In Flanders Field Museum was and how it took up half of the square we were in. Unfortunately, I was not able to visit the museum as it was not part of the itinerary.

We decided to split into groups and find a place for lunch. Before browsing around, a Continue reading “YPRÉS, BELGIUM”

DIEPPE, FRANCE

DIEPPE, FRANCE

We woke up pretty early, got ready, packed up, and headed for breakfast. The breakfast was complimentary and buffet-styled so we were able to choose what we wanted. Compared to my Parisian breakfast back in Paris, the breakfast was almost the same except for the croissant and the cheese. The cheese was not fresh, as it was packaged, and the croissant just didn’t have that same Parisian taste. As we were eating, we were intrigued with stories from some people in our group about the hotel. Apparently, in some of the rooms, there were bedbugs and dead insects under the beds, so some girls had to sleep in the bathroom. I felt really bad but I was lucky that I didn’t have go Continue reading “DIEPPE, FRANCE”

NORMANDY, FRANCE

NORMANDY, FRANCE

Two years ago, I was able to take a life-changing trip to many of the War Memorials, Commonwealth Cemeteries, and famous landmarks that marked the footsteps of World War I and World War II. After our luxuries trip in Paris and Versailles, we took the autoroute to our first stop at Arromanches, Normandy. As the site of the famous Mulberry Harbour, we were enriched with the event that took place on the 6th of June, 1944; D-Day.

Before I begin, I will give you a little insight into the history of D-Day. During World War II, after the devastation of the Dieppe Raid, the battle of Normandy began on June 6, Continue reading “NORMANDY, FRANCE”

VERSAILLES, FRANCE

VERSAILLES, FRANCE

Let me begin by saying that it really took me until the end of the tour that I was really at the Palace of Versailles. Versailles was definitely one of my top highlights of my stay in France. Everything was covered in gold and sculpted in a way that was unique from the buildings in Paris. Before I left for Europe, I was in the middle of learning about the three Louis that occupied the Palace during the 17th-18th century. On the tour, I was able to connect and really set myself in history.

Each Louis had a completely different personality and story, which really gave Versailles a rich history. Before I begin telling you about my Versailles experience, let me give you a Continue reading “VERSAILLES, FRANCE”

PARIS, FRANCE

PARIS, FRANCE

Paris. The city of love, lights and all things magical. When I first arrived in the city, I fell instantly in love. My mind was in a trance, my heart was already gone and my life was about to change. I could remember telling myself you’re not in Paris, you’re just dreaming, but for a second or two, I believed it. Was I really in Paris?

As soon as I arrived at the Paris airport around noon, I was anxious to go to see everything right away. Once the group boarded the bus, we headed towards Clergy Pontoise where our hotel was located. I dropped off my luggage, checked in and as soon as the rest of the group was done, we took an expeditious trip on the subway train to the Louvre; our first experience in France.
