I am going to go out of the limb here and profess my love for burrito bowls. A beautiful bowl filled with equal layered and indulging ingredients that fill you up and satisfies your soul-and tastebuds of course. From mild flavours to tangy and spicy, a burrito bowl is my definition of a healthy salad.

I began my love life with burrito bowls when I had my very first one at Chipotle off the Harvard campus. I was a little skeptical at first with the combination of cheese and rice, but I fell instantly in love on my first bite! With the sauces, vegetables, cheese, and rice, my tastebuds were in heaven! Never have I tried something so wonderfully put together and to top it off, it was probably one of the best meals I had in Boston.

There is a special kind of swoon whenever a fresh burrito bowl is made in front of your eyes. The way each ingredient is equally divided and the way they are perfectly layered just makes you want to dive right in- after taking the Instagram photo of course. I love how you can load your bowl with a wide array of toppings and sauces and actually pay for what you are getting. I normally take my time eating my burrito bowl since I want to savour every bite and enjoy it. The sensation of every bite you take just makes you want save it but also makes you want to go for more! I rest assure you, you will taste every topping in your bowl.

Living in a rather small city, there are limited places to order fine burritos and other Mexican-inspired food. No, I am not talking about the Americanized Taco Bell because let’s be real, it’s not real Mexican-food to me. Just this past week, however, a new joint called Xaco Taco opened, located only five minutes from my house! Locally owned and grown, I literally could not wait to try it, so last Sunday my brother and I decided to check it out! I ordered the Adobo Chicken Burrito Bowl while my brother ordered three soft tacos but I’ll just plainly say it was one of the best burritos bowls I’ve ever eaten. With the avocado crema and the extremely spicy charred tomato salsa, I was in LOVE! Now let’s discuss this briefly, I am not a marinara nor am I a salsa person, however, the charred tomato salsa was everything from the thick texture to the spicy flavour! I seriously loved it!

Anyway, my love for burrito bowls transcends time and space and for those who have yet to try it should probably go to the nearest burrito and taco joint right now. Like seriously now. For those who live around the London and Toronto area, my ultimate favourite burrito joint is Burrito Boyz  {thanks to my best friend}, so I definitely recommend going there for cheap soul-satisfying burritos, tacos, and quesadillas!

Here is how I like my burrito bowl

Cilantro-Lime Rice
Adobo Chicken
Black Beans
Avocado Crema
Charred Tomato Salsa
Roasted Zucchini
Roasted Red and Green Peppers
Jalapeno Pepper
Pickled Spanish and Red Onions
3 Cheese Blend
Cilantro Sour Cream
